Influencer Strategy to Implement the Innovation Plan

We all have skills to develop and strengthen. In his famous words, Steve Wonder states that we all have abilities, but what makes the difference is how to use them. Grenny, J. Patterson, K., and other authors of their book Influencer teach us how to get skills to be strengthened through continuous practice. I applied the steps to my innovation plan, focusing on my goal. What vital behaviors do I want to change? Also, use the six sources of influence. This resource is handy for defining what we want to achieve and finding the physical and human resources to help us achieve our goal.

To find vital behaviors

  1. Notice the obvious.

It is evident that in primary school, there is a high percentage of students with a low reading level, especially when they have a different mother tongue. When students start school in second grade, the difference concerning the grade average is significant when learning English.

  1. Look for crucial moments.

A crucial moment is when students understand that their reading level differs from the other children in their grade. This generates frustration and demotivation. Teachers practice different tests that reaffirm this significant difference in class.

  1. Learn from positive deviants.

Some students overcome this difference in level and receive additional help at school; they are highly motivated by their teachers and receive reinforcement at home; they have spirit, reading habits, and the possibility of having reading books at home. They are also advancing in the use of technology as a means of stimulating reading.

  1. Spot culture busters

Detect the destroyers of culture. One of the practices that considerably affects the difference in reading levels is a little motivation that students receive. This makes them interested in more than just this important academic area.

This motivation should occur both at school and at home. Instead of highlighting the level differences in students, teachers should underline the small achievements they achieve daily.

Part A

Resulting in what I want to achieve and how I will measure them.

The students will be able to advance in their reading levels.

I will measure the result with the level of motivation and the number of frequently used words they manage to work on each day and weekly.

Vital behavior I am trying to change.

The vital behavior I will change is the degree of demotivation shown when they participate in reading-related activities. Attitudes toward homework activities will be measured in the following categories:

1. I love to participate.

 2. I like to participate.

3. I dislike participating.

4. I hate to participate.

Who are my organizational influencers?

My school has many leaders who are excellent employees and respected influencers. There are the classroom teachers, the specialists in the different academic areas, those who handle digital technology very well, and those who lead dyslexia and intervention areas.
